Turks to protest Armenian ‘genocide’ claims in New York
A group of young Turks will hold a rally in New York to condemn
Armenia on April 24, a date marked by Armenians as the anniversary
of the alleged mass killings of their ancestors in Ottoman
Turkey.
The annual protest, to be held under the motto, "End to Armenian
lies and commemoration of our victims", will traditionally take
place near the Time Square, CNN Turk TV channel reported.
During the rally, being organized by the U.S.-based Young Turks
Union, the protesters will convey to the Americans the
groundlessness of the Armenian claims terming the 1915 developments
in the Ottoman Empire as genocide.
Historians note that from 1915 to 1923, Armenians had begun an
uprising. They had taken up arms against Turkey and assisted
Russia, one of Turkey’s enemies in WWI. To counter these actions,
the Ottoman Empire decided to resettle the Armenians. However, the
latter claim that their predecessors were subjected to genocide in
the process, while Ankara rejects the allegations and has offered
to research the events through a joint commission of
historians.*
