By Vugar Khalilov
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said that Moscow is ready to host the second meeting of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border delimitation commissions, Azernews reports, citing TASS.
She made the remark at a briefing on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 15, adding that Russia expects proposals on the dates of such a meeting from the parties.
"We welcomed the first meeting of the bilateral commission on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on May 24," she noted. - “We agreed that the second meeting will be held in Moscow. For our part, we are ready to organize [such a meeting] in the very near future, and we are waiting for proposals on the dates, respectively, from Azerbaijani and Armenian partners. For our part, we are ready,” Zakharova said.
The spokeswoman pointed out that the activities of the commissions on the delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border are not directly related to the situation in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacemaking contingent in Karabakh.
"At the same time, we expect that the launch and systematic work of the commission will help increase confidence between Baku and Yerevan and prevent incidents both on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent," Zakharova stressed.
On May 24, the first meeting of border delimitation commissions led by Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and his Armenian opposite side Mher Grigoryan was held on the state border in line with the agreement reached between the leaders of the countries in Brussels.
The parties confirmed their willingness to cooperate on delimitation and other matters within the commission's framework. The conference also discussed the commission's joint operations' organizational and procedural difficulties.
To recap, on May 23, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed decrees on the creation of border delimitation and security commissions.
