Mauritanian FM visits burial of Azeri genocide victims
Mauritanian Foreign Minister Naha Mint Mouknass, who is in Azerbaijan, has visited the burial in the northern Guba district where the Azeris killed by Armenians in 1918 were laid to rest. She was accompanied by Azerbaijan’s ambassador to the country Sabir Aghabayov.
Representatives of the Guba executive authority noted that tens of thousands of people were brutally slain by Armenians in Azerbaijan, and the mass burial in the district is ample proof of the 1918 atrocities.
Mouknass said she had heard about the Guba burial for the first time, adding: "Wherever in the world it happens, genocide is a crime, a barbaric action. This is something the whole world should know. I will spread this information upon my return home," the Mauritanian minister said.
During the tragic developments, Armenians killed over 50,000 Azeris throughout the republic and ousted 10,000 people from their homes. 16,000 people were slain in the Guba district alone.*
