European institutions to aid preps for Azerbaijan’s parliament poll
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the
Council of Europe and the European Union will assist Azerbaijan to
prepare for the November 7 parliamentary elections.
The OSCE Office in Baku, the Council of Europe Office in Azerbaijan and the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan on Wednesday will jointly present their plans for providing the assistance, according to the OSCE website.
The aim of the projects is to support the efforts of the government and other relevant actors to improve the electoral process and bring the conduct of elections into line with Azerbaijan's OSCE and CoE commitments and other standards for democratic elections.
The assistance will concentrate on enhancing political dialogue, strengthening the capacities and independence of the electoral administration and other relevant actors; supporting a media environment that will ensure independent, unbiased and plural coverage of the electoral campaigns of all candidates; encouraging the proper implementation of the Law on Freedom of Assembly; and stimulating public interest and participation in the electoral process, including by women and young people.*
