NATO chief to visit Azerbaijan: Romania envoy

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan as part of his tour of the South Caucasus and Central Asia regions, the Romanian Ambassador in Baku Nikolae Ureche has said.
According to him, the visit is tentatively planned for the summer but its dates are unknown at this point.
"Once taking up his duties, the secretary general visits the NATO member states and then the alliance’s allied states. During the visits issues of bilateral cooperation are discussed," Ureche said.
The ambassador also said a NATO parliamentary delegation is due to visit Baku April 12-14. The delegation will be composed of ten NATO Parliamentary Assembly members, with three representing Romania. The alliance’s representatives will hold a number of meetings at Azerbaijan’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Internal Affairs as well as hold discussions in Parliament. They will also attend a conference devoted to NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation.
Romania has been fulfilling the mission of the NATO coordinator in Azerbaijan since 2009.
Also, Baku will host an international conference of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) on April 22. According to Ureche, the event will be dedicated to the UN Security Council’s resolution on reducing armament.
The conference will be attended by representatives of NATO member countries, as well as NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia Robert Simmons.
The EAPC comprises 50 NATO member states and partners. The organization serves as a forum for political and security dialog and consultations among these countries.*
