OSCE frontline monitoring fails over bog-down of cars
An OSCE monitoring scheduled on the contact line of
the Azerbaijani and Armenian troops in a village of Azerbaijan's
Aghdam district did not take place due to the vehicles carrying
OSCE representatives bogging down in swampy soil, the Defense
Ministry told AssA-Irada.
According to the ministry, prior to the monitoring, the OSCE representatives were informed that the area was unfit for travel and marshy. However, they insisted on conducting the monitoring, after which it was given a go-ahead.
The cars have been recovered from swampy soil with the aid of local residents and rescue machines, but the monitoring did not take place nonetheless.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two decades. Armenia has been occupying over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory since the early 1990s. The ceasefire accord was signed in 1994, but efforts by OSCE mediators have been largely fruitless so far, and sporadic clashes on the frontline continue.
