Radiation tracking devices installed on Azeri-Iranian border
Monitors tracking radiation levels were installed in 2009 on four
Azerbaijani border checkpoints, including the frontier with the
country’s southern neighbor Iran, in accord with an agreement
signed with the United States, the government said in a report
submitted to parliament.
The monitors have been placed on the Sadarak, Julfa, Shahtahti and Shikhly checkpoints, under the agreement, signed by the State Border Service with the US Department of Energy, which covers cooperation in combating illegal trading in nuclear and other radio-active substances. Currently, two more such devices are being installed on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border.*
