Russia denies storing weapons in occupied Azeri region
Russia has rebuffed reports saying that part of its military
machinery withdrawn from Georgia has been stationed in Upper
(Nagorno) Garabagh, an Azeri region under Armenian occupation.
The remarks came from the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry who was responding to Tuesdays statement by Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev. Armenian media quoted Vyacheslav Sedov as saying that the reports had no merit and were not based on any facts.
It is disappointing that these baseless allegations were made by Azerbaijani military [officials], he said.
Sedov added that all the weaponry and machinery moved from Georgia to Armenia had been stationed at the Russian military base in Gumri. Stationing these arms in other regions, including Upper Garabagh, is out of the question.*
