A tender will be announced in Azerbaijan in the coming days for the opening of a new regional television channel, according to the national broadcasting regulator. Nushiravan Maharramli, the chairman of the National Television and Radio Council (NTRC), said the broadcasting body was working to ensure that TV channels are airing in all of the country’s regions ahead of this year’s parliamentary elections.
The NTRC chairman said the goal has been achieved in most Azerbaijani regions, with the exception of Aran and Shirvan. The new TV channel will be based in one of the two regions.
"One of the main objectives is to ensure that there is no need for parliamentary hopefuls to flock to Baku to conduct pre-election campaigns," Maharramli said.*
