Group of alleged officials detained
Azerbaijan’s National Security Ministry has nabbed a
group deceiving citizens by introducing themselves as government
officials.
A man named Hajiali Abbasov, who had presented himself as an employee of the President’s Office dealing with education issues, and Mirza Guliyev, who claimed to be deputy head of a Baku district executive authority, were taking money from people to arrange their admission to universities, the ministry said in a statement.
The two had promised arranging the admission of students who failed to score enough points at admission exams by means of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. They were detained by National Security Ministry officers while taking a bribe with the aid of another individual.
The ministry has launched a criminal case on charges of fraud inflicting considerable damage and misrepresenting oneself as a government official.*
