The Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani parliament) has adopted an appeal calling for unity of world Azerbaijanis and promoting their homeland’s cause abroad. The appeal, passed on the occasion of December 31, the Day of Azerbaijanis’ Solidarity, called on world Azerbaijanis to promote their language and culture abroad and step up efforts in conveying Azerbaijan’s problems to the international community.
It said strengthening ties with Azerbaijanis worldwide and their bonds with the homeland and facilitating the establishment of diaspora organizations abroad is part of the country’s policy.
Touching on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh, the lawmakers indicated that every Azerbaijani, regardless of his country of residence, should strive toward resolving the dispute in line with Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
"We believe that if we join effort, we can achieve a positive change in resolving this grave problem," the appeal said.*
