Azerbaijan, Poland mull military co-op
Azerbaijan and Poland discussed prospects for military cooperation
during Polish Defense Minister Bogdan Klich’s visit to Baku on
Wednesday, according to the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry.
Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev, hosting his counterpart, informed him about the military-political situation in the region and the consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. Abiyev said that as a result of Armenia’s occupying part of Azerbaijani territory, about a million Azerbaijanis have become refugees. He noted that peace talks brokered by the OSCE Minsk Group have been underway with Yerevan for fifteen years but remain fruitless. Therefore, Azerbaijan’s using the military option to free its land will become inevitable, the minister said.
Among other issues, the two ministers mulled prospects for cooperation in military education and military-technical collaboration.
The Polish minister’s visit to Baku will last two days. He is expected to further visit Georgia and Armenia, the neighboring South Caucasus republics, as part of his first visit to the region.*
