African swine fever virus found in Azerbaijan
African swine fever virus (ASF) has been discovered in Azerbaijan's
western Gabala district for the first time. The virus was found on
pigs kept in the Nich village on Monday, the Agriculture Ministry's
veterinary service said.
Preventive measures were launched on the same day to avert the spread of the virus. Sanitary work was tackled in the area, and the perilous strain is contained, the source said.
The virus was discovered in the other two South Caucasus republics - Georgia and Armenia - in 2007.
