Belarus minister claims Armenia not aggressor
Belarusian
Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov has reportedly said his country
does not consider Armenia as aggressor.
The statement was made in a recent meeting with students at the Yerevan State University, Novosti Armenii news agency reported.
Martynov also believes that the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group brokering settlement to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh have not been very successful.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a cease-fire in 1994, but Armenia continues to occupy Upper Garabagh and seven other Azerbaijani districts in defiance of international law. The Minsk Group, co-chaired by the United States, Russia and France, is brokering peace talks.
As for Belarus’ arms sales to Azerbaijan, the minister said the sales complied with international law, without violating commitments to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Martynov added that his country had also offered military cooperation to Armenia.*
