US Pfizer now in Azerbaijan
US Pfizer Inc, a leading world drugmaker, has opened
an office in Baku, its third location in Central Asia and Caucasus
regions. The company also has offices in Kazakhstan and
Georgia.
Melih Memecan, General Manager of Pfizer Turkey, said at the opening ceremony that the company seeks to introduce Azerbaijani medicine to Pfizer`s 160 years of scientific research covering 11 areas of therapeutics. He expressed confidence in the development of medicine in Azerbaijan, saying Pfizer is seeking to capitalize on this potential by channeling investment, producing drugs, as well as taking advantage of the country`s population and work force.
37 types of Pfizer medicine are presently on sale in the Azerbaijani market, and the company intends to increase the figure to 60 by 2012.
The US drugmaker also plans to develop treatment for numerous children`s diseases in Azerbaijan.
