Ministry of Labor and Social Protection holds meeting with WB mission

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan has met with the World Bank's Mission on Diagnosis of Social Protection and Occupation.
Deputy Minister Metin Kerimli informed about "Employment Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2030" approved this year, Trend reported.
He pointed out that the new Employment Strategy will enable to take the next important steps in the development of human capital, employment and decent work in our country.
The purpose of this visit was also to get information on supply and demand in the labor market and consultations to obtain information on the factors that determine the needs of the labor market in the private sector in the country, said Country Manager from World Bank in Azerbaijan Navid Hassan Naqvi and Program Manager Lire Ersado.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the outcomes of the preparation of a document on diagnostic study of workplaces and employment in Azerbaijan, technical support for the preparation of the country's new employment strategy and cooperation in other areas.
The purpose of the new employment strategy is to ensure the transition of employment policy from extensive to an intensive phase, to increase the employment level of the population, to provide full employment, to support decent work and increasing labor productivity.
Main directions of the strategy involve implementation of employment-oriented economic development policy; improvement of the regulatory framework and institutional framework within the labor market regulation; development of labor force skills and improvement of labor standards; improvement of social dialogue and prevent informal labor relations, development of the labor market monitoring and forecasting system and etc.
According to statistics on the employment strategy, the share of employed population in the population at the age of 15 and above was 62.9 percent in 2017, 32.7 percent of the economically active population had primary vocational, secondary and higher education.
The high share of women and youth among the unemployed is one of the main problems observed in the labor market
"Strategic Road Map on Vocational Education and Training Development in the Republic of Azerbaijan" was adopted to improve vocational education system based on the requirements of the labor market, as well as the State of the Vocational Education under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Agency was created.
