Another officer arrested over general`s murder released
Another high-ranking military officer arrested
over the murder of the Azerbaijani Air Force commander has been
released, law enforcement sources said.
Lt.-Col. Fuad Agharzayev, a close relative of Lt.-Gen. Rail Rzayev,
who was shot dead in February, was set free after he had been
handed down two-month detention pending the investigation shortly
after the commander`s killing. Agharzayev held a position at the
Air Force and Air Defense Troops.
We recall that the medical service chief of the Air Force and Air
Defense Troops, Lt.-Col. Natig Ibayev, and another Air Force
officer, Capt. Ramin Naghiyev, who had been detained for the same
term following Rzayev`s murder, were released under a ruling of a
Baku military court a while ago. The two officers continue acting
in their capacities.
Rzayev, 64, was shot dead by an unknown gunman while in his service
car outside his home in the Yasamal district of Baku. Although the
general had been rushed to a hospital with a bullet wound, it was
impossible to save his life. President Ilham Aliyev condemned the
crime and ordered law enforcement agencies to quickly investigate
it.
