A lecture by Azerbaijani Academician Rafael Huseynov was heard in the Baku Book Center as part of the Nasimi Festival of Poetry, Arts, and Spirituality.

Huseynov spoke about the influence of Azerbaijani great poet Nasimi’s heritage during a lecture entitled “Tradition of imitation in the poetry of the Middle East: inimitableness in imitation”.

He also spoke about the work carried out in the Soviet period on the eve of the 600th anniversary of Nasimi.

“A lot of work was done in connection with Nasimi’s creativity,” he added. “Nasimi deeply penetrated the human thoughts and had a great influence on the further literature.”

“Nasimi was a thinker who created models of thinking,” Huseynov said. “And after Nasimi there were poets who wrote in the Azerbaijani language, however they did not have such melodiousness, graceful expressions like those of Nasimi. Among them are Kadi Burhaneddin, Habibi. It is much easier to read and understand Nasimi in the modern period.”

“After Nasimi, poetic dictionaries were created,” he said. “Hurufism would not be so extensive without Nasimi, it would not have spread so widely. In the Middle Ages, protest movements more often occurred in cities.”

It was stressed during the lecture that Nasimi’s heritage also influenced the thinking of people associated with sects. For example, Nasimi’s tradition continued in Anatolia until the beginning of the 20th century.

“The merit of Nasimi is not limited only to the works which he wrote in the Azerbaijani language,” he said. “Nasimi also had followers who in their creativity sought to write in the same language as Nasimi, and all this had an impact on the Azerbaijani language and Azerbaijani literature.”

In conclusion, stressing the importance of the festival, Huseynov added that very important events were held during the festival.
