The growth of Azerbaijan’s population requires the creation of more than 100,000 jobs annually, Ali Ahmadov, Chairman of the Commission on Regulation and Coordination of Labor Relations and Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, said at the meeting of the Commission on May 25.

He noted that the population of Azerbaijan has increased by 1.5 million people over the past 15 years and that it increases by 1.2 percent annually.

Ahmadov also said that employment issues in Azerbaijan are one of the important directions of the state policy.

"The work carried out in Azerbaijan in the field of employment produces results. Many jobs have been created over the past 15 years in Azerbaijan and steps have been taken to provide decent jobs to the population,” he noted.

The deputy prime minister said that the unemployment rate in the country is within five percent.

“The demographic situation in some developed European countries is different from Azerbaijan’s. The population is growing in Azerbaijan, but in those countries, on the contrary, it is decreasing,” Ahmadov added.

He also mentioned that today about five million of Azerbaijan’s population is able-bodied.
