Ganja mayor refutes subordinates` link to criminals
The mayor of Azerbaijan`s northwestern city of
Ganja, Eldar Azizov, has dismissed media reports linking his
subordinates to criminals.
"Reports in local media about the Ganja city executive authority`s employees maintaining ties with outlaws are being circulated on purpose. Probably, a certain group of individuals intends to cast a shadow on the achievements we have made in Ganja," he said while commenting on the reports alleging his deputy, Shahmali Javadov`s, has links with businessman Shohrat Guliyev, who is accused of numerous crimes.
A group headed by Guliyev is suspected of having ordered killings in 2003 and 2004.
The mayor dismissed allegations that his deputy had been summoned to law enforcement agencies for questioning regarding supposed crimes committed by the entrepreneur.
"Shahmali Javadov has neither been interrogated nor given an explanation in connection with these crimes. And, it can`t happen either because this has no bearing on him. Overall, I am unequivocally stating that Shohrat Guliyev has not been in contact with either executive authority employees or any other state agencies of Ganja."
