The fifth international scientific conference titled "Genocide of Turkic-Muslim Peoples in the 20th Century", timed to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, will be held on April 11-15, Director of the Institute of History of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Yagub Mahmudov said.

Mahmudov made the remarks at a scientific council dedicated to the "Year of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic", the Institute said on January 30.

The conference will be jointly organized by the Institute of History, the Embassy of Turkey in Azerbaijan, and Turkey’s Ataturk Research Center.

Mahmudov said the main principles of the Azerbaijan-Turkey relations are friendship and brotherhood.

Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Erkan Ozoral, in turn, stressed that Turkey’s power is Azerbaijan’s power.

"We have common history, culture and we must jointly study our history," the diplomat said. “The most bleeding wound of Azerbaijan – the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict - is also Turkey’s problem.”
