An interesting case happened in one of Azerbaijan's regions, as an American raccoon was trapped in a yard in Garagashli village of the Sabirabad region.

Salman Muradov, a resident of the village, informed that few days ago he set a trap in his yard to protect poultry from a predator, Azertac reported.

“A predatory animal, which is not met in Azerbaijan’s lowland region, was captured in the trap. Through the Internet we found out that it is an American striped raccoon,” said the villager.

Veterinarians examined the animal. Salmanov said that after the raccoon’s paw healed, they will hand over the animal to the Zoo.

Raccoons is round, fluffy creatures with bushy tails native to North America.

It's the largest of the procyonid family, having a body length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in) and a body weight of 3.5 to 9 kg. Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur which protects it from cold weather.

Two of the raccoon’s most distinctive features are its extremely dexterous front paws and it's facial mask, which are themes in the mythology of several Native American nations.

Raccoons are found in North and Central America, Europe and Japan.

They are very adaptable, so they live in a wide range of climates and these ring-tailed animals make homes, called dens, in trees or caves.
