The entire Caucasus region is faced with the enviromental threats Armenia had created.

Environmental and clean water activists are ringing the alarm on ecological pollution levels in this poor South Caucasian country. Photos of the Akhuryan (Arpachay) river littered with garbage appeared in social media recently. Arpachay is one of the important tributaries of Araz River. Flowing directly to Araz River it crosses Azerbaijan’s territories. The pollution of the Araz River by Armenia harms the ecosystem of Azerbaijan. The Armenians also pollute the Ganjachay, Goshgarchay, Shamkirchay, Agstafachay rivers that pass through the Azerbaijani territory.

Moreover, the Agstafachay reservoir in the border village of Azerbaijan’s Gazakh region is subjected to pollution from the Armenian side. The river that feeds the Agstafachay reservoir originates in the territory of Armenia.

Another proof of Armenia’s eco-terror against Azerbaijan is Sarsang water reservoirs, located in Agdara region, which is under Armenian invasion.

The most alarming threat remains to be the Metsamor nuclear power plant, built during the Soviet era. A list of environmental crimes that Metsamor carries includes global warming, greenhouse effect, ozone holes, reduction of biodiversity in the region, environmental pollution, erosion of fertile soils, increase in the number of previously unknown diseases and so on.

The ecological crisis is always a violation of the balance between nature and the human impact on it. Armenia has done everything to break this balance.

For many years, Azerbaijan suffers from ecological terrorism committed by Armenia in occupied Karabakh. Aggressors pollute rivers by chemicals, biological and other radioactive waste coming from the Armenian territories and forming sources of drinking water in Azerbaijan.

The ecological situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is critical, and this conclusion is real, even despite the fact that the Azerbaijani side has no information on the direct ecological condition of the territories occupied by Armenia. The Armenian ecological terror has significantly deteriorated ecosystems and natural resources for a long period, which has a harmful effect not only on current generation.

Armenia continues to carry out ecological terror in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, Azerbaijani Consul General in Los Angeles, Chairman of the Los Angeles Consular Corps, Nasimi Agayev, said in an interview with ECONEWS TV and radio company Nancy Perlman.

Agayev spoke about the geographical location, history of independence, rich culture, scenic nature, tourist potential and economic development of Azerbaijan.

He spoke about the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, stressing that Armenia continues to carry out ecological terror in the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

Agayev focused on the fact that Armenia dumps household waste, sewage and radioactive substances of industrial enterprises into the Araz River, thereby carrying out an ecological genocide against Azerbaijan. The Consul General stressed that the operation of the Metsamor NPP by Armenia, which does not meet any safety standards, poses a serious threat to the entire region, called on the international community to put pressure on Armenia in order to achieve closure of this station.

The government of Azerbaijan has repeatedly attracted the attention of the international public to the heavy ecological situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The occupation authorities in Karabakh do not bear any responsibility to international organizations for the preservation of the ecological situation in the captured territories. Aggressors are required to pay for damages caused to Azerbaijan’s environment for many years and to improve the region’s ecology after withdrawal from Azerbaijani lands.

In order to assess the short-term and long-term effects of deliberate arson and a dangerous environmental situation within the OSCE, an assessment mission and a commission were established. Unfortunately, the Armenian side did not fulfill the resolution on joint activities taken after the mission.
