Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry is studying the issue of the illegal visit of Belgian MPs to Azerbaijan’s occupied territories, the ministry told Trend Oct. 31.

“After that, a decision will be made to include their names in the list of undesirable persons due to the illegal visit,” the ministry said.

On Oct. 30, Jean-Jacques Flahaux, a member of the Belgian Federal Parliament, chairman of the Reformist Movement for international relations, and his deputy made an illegal visit to the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
