Azerbaijani MP: There is always separatism where Armenians are

By Rashid Shirinov

Separatism, territorial claims and split are present anywhere where Armenians are, Azerbaijani parliamentarian believes.

There is a manifestation of separatism in the events taking place in Catalonia, and the local Armenians support this separatism, which is not surprising, Azerbaijani MP Bakhtiyar Sadigov told Trend on October 3.

“Therefore, it is time for the world to know the true essence of the Armenians, their continuous attempts to resort to violence, violate the general principles of states in an undemocratic way, and to oppose statehood,” Sadigov said.

The MP further noted that the Armenians must be severely punished for the atrocities they committed on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is an ancient Azerbaijani land.

Armenia broke out a lengthy war against Azerbaijan by laying territorial claims on the country in late 1980s - early 1990s. Since the war, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. The invaders killed more than 20,000 Azerbaijanis and drove over 1 million people out of their homes.

“The acts of violence they perpetrated must be given a legal assessment in accordance with international law,” Sadigov noted. “Armenians must realize that states are ruled by laws, there are international principles and norms aimed at ensuring peace and tranquility in the world.”

He also added that inappropriate claims and demands only lead to turmoil, violence and instability in states. “We will not allow this to anybody,” said the MP.
