Two more Azerbaijanis evacuated from Iran diagnosed with coronavirus
By Akbar Mammadov
Two more Azerbaijani citizens returning from Iran have been diagnosed with the coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers reported on March 9.
Presently, the patients, born in 1996 and 1978, have been placed in a quarantine and their health condition is stable.
So far, nine cases of coronavirus have been registered in the country. Azerbaijan registered its first case of coronavirus on Feb. 28.
On March 4, the country evacuated 276 of its citizens from neighbouring Iran, which is at the epicenter of the outbreak in the Middle East. Three of the evacuees tested positive for the infection.
To note, the health of an Azerbaijani citizen born in 1938, who was previously admitted to the special treatment hospital after being diagnosed with the infection, is stable-moderately severe. The condition of other patients placed in the hospital for special care against coronavirus is stable.
President Aliyev has allocated 10 million manats [$5.8m] to prevent the spread of the virus in the country.
Azerbaijan recently closed its borders with Iran and stopped air flights to this country. It also annulled the entry of Iranian ships to its seaports.
