TURKSOY to hold Kitabi Dede Gorgud” symposium at UNESCO

A delegation led by Irina Bokova, UNESCO Secretary General visited the TURKSOY headquarters in Ankara.
Bokova got acquainted with the photo-exhibition featuring
cooperation between UNESCO and the International Organization of
Turkic Culture.
Addressing the event, Dusen Kaseinov, the Secretary General of
TURKSOY spoke of the successful cooperation between the two
organizations.
Reminding the Novruz holiday festivities and concert arranged in UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the centennial ceremony dedicated to the Azerbaijani operetta “Arshin Mal Alan” ((The Cloth Peddler) by the renowned Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli, he thanked for support to the fifth meeting of the National Commissions and Committees for UNESCO of TURKSOY member states held in Baku.
He noted that TURKSOY plans to hold special Novruz concerts
dedicated to the 70th anniversary of UNESCO in March 2015 and the
“Kitabi Dede Gorgud” symposium at the UNESCO headquarters in April
2015.
Bokova praised the exhibition on cooperation of the two
organizations, noting that a series of international actions are
planned to be held in 2016 on the 20th anniversary of establishment
of cooperation between UNESCO and TURKSOY.
The sides have noted that expansion of cooperation will be more
fruitful in the coming years.
TURKSOY is an international cultural organization of countries with Turkic populations, whose speaking languages belong to the Turkic language family.
The organization has its roots going back to the 1992 meetings in Baku and Istanbul, where the ministers of culture from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan declared their commitment to cooperate in a joint cultural framework. TURKSOY was subsequently established by an agreement signed on July 12, 1993 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
