Kuknar (Christmas tree) International Art Exhibition kicked off in a ceremony held in the Heydar Aliyev Center’s park on December 25.

Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva made a tour of the exhibition.

Christmas trees and decorations – symbols of the New Year – are present in different forms, modern art style. People come together around the elegantly-decorated Christmas trees on this festive day forgetting their worries and concerns, and enjoying the festive and magical moments of the New Year's Eve.

Thirty Christmas trees are displayed in the park now. Twelve of them are new works made specifically for this exhibition by nine local authors and three foreigners from Japan, Slovenia and Uzbekistan.

Students of the Azerbaijani State Art Academy are taking part in the exhibition along with well-known artists, sculptors and illustrators. One of the works of the exhibition is dedicated the International Dialogue for Environmental Action Public Association.

The exhibition also presents 18 works that had participated in the “Christmas tree” International Art Exhibition and Competition last year.

The projects “Christmas tree” and “Samani” organized by the Heydar Aliyev Center on the eve of the New Year in 2013 and Novruz Bayram in 2014 are aimed to contribute to development of Azerbaijani culture and modern art and create festive mood in visitors.

The well-known persons of art Pierre Sheremetyev and Colette Tolstoy, who came to Azerbaijan to participate in the events dedicated to the 200th birthday anniversary of Lermontov, also attended the inauguration ceremony of the exhibition.

Leyla Aliyeva also visited a new cafe opened in the Center’s park.
