Folk music contest finishes in Baku

Winners of the third Republican Competition of folk music instruments performers at children and youth level were awarded at the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic named after Muslim Magomayev in Baku.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Sevda Mammadaliyeva and People's Artist, professor of Baku Music Academy and Chairman of the Jury Ramiz Guliyev noted that Azerbaijan pays great attention to the development and promotion of its national music.

The ministry organized the competition for the third time to develop music education of children, to promote folk musical instruments, as well as to identify young talents and improve their professional level.

The contest was held in six specialties Tar, Kamancha, Kanon, Accordion, Balaban, and Saz, in three age groups of 10-12, 13-15, and 16-18 years old children.

The music contest was held in two rounds. The first round was held in Baku, Mingachevir, Goranboy, Sheki, Khachmaz, Aghjabadi, and Shirvan. The second round of the competition was held in Baku.

The contest gathered more than 600 pupils and students of children' music and art schools, music colleges, Azerbaijan National Conservatory, Music College of the National Conservatory, Republican art gymnasium within the Conservatory, Special Music School named after Bulbul, and Qafqaz University.

At the end of the ceremony, the winners gave a concert performing Mugham, as well as works by composers T. Bakikhanov, A. Zeynalli, V. Adigozalov, A. Rzayev, S. Rustamova, G. Rossini, A. Dvorak, and M. Glinka.
