The administration of Icherisheher (Old City), a historical monument located in downtown Baku, hosted the first International Living History Festival over the International Museum Day on May 18-19.

The festival, which was held in front of the tower gates Gosha Gala Gapisi in the Old City, which is a unique state historical and architectural preserve, brought together participants from over 20 countries.

The participants demonstrated dances, pantomimes, and national folk characters, and performed folk music, including Azerbaijani mugham.

Moreover, all museums and historical facilities of the preserve offered free admission all day long in connection with the International Museum Day tradition.

The festival, which attracted guests from numerous countries, including Turkey, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, and Japan, is important in terms of developing intercultural dialog.

Icherisheher is a pearl of the Azerbaijani culture. Notwithstanding its small size, which is only 22 hectares, it has hundreds of historical monuments, four of which are of global importance.

Icherisheher is a unique town within the city of Baku with its own infrastructure and residential communities. More than 1,300 families live in Icherisheher; it contains a number of museums, 18 hotels, and over 100 commercial and catering facilities.

The fortress is located in the center of Baku along the coast of the Caspian Sea. The walls of the fortress are 8-10 meters high and 3.5 meters wide. The unique historic monuments and a wide range of tourism options make Icherisheher one of the most popular tourist attractions in Azerbaijan.
