Medieval settlement found in Azerbaijan

The ruins of a settlement from the end of the13th - beginning of the 14th century were found at the 6th kilometer of the Salyan - Neftchala highway on the territory of Pirappa village on the left bank of the Kura River, senior staff scientist of Archeology and Ethnography of the Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Ph.D. in history, Anar Agalarzade, told Trend news agency.

The settlement covers an area of approximately 0.5 hectares, and has a cultural layer 1-1.5 meters thick, Agalarzade said.

According to him, most of the settlement is under the river and is being destroyed. According to local residents, in the summer, when the water level drops, a large amount of archaeological materials comes to the surface.

According to Agalarzade, the cultural layer of the settlement is rich with remains of burnt brick, remains of hearths, glazed and unglazed ceramics, vitrics, etc.
