Days of Saudi culture held in Azerbaijan
The Days of Saudi Culture were held in Azerbaijan June
17-21.
Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev and
Saudi Arabia's Information and Culture Minister Iyad Madani had
told the opening ceremony at the State Philharmony that the conduct
of the reciprocal Weeks of Culture aims to deepen cooperation
between the two countries. It also serves to the familiarization of
the two nations with each other's history, culture and
traditions.
"Azerbaijanis attending the exhibitions and concerts will have a
better understanding of Saudi Arabia from now on. Participation in
the Days of Saudi Culture will revive a 'little Saudi Arabia'
before your eyes. Moreover, just like in other countries,
Azerbaijanis will witness how much humor, music and fine arts are
appreciated in Saudi Arabia," Madani said.
In conclusion of the ceremony, the two ministers presented to each
other symbolic presents on behalf of their countries.
The Days of Culture were mainly organized in Baku and the country's
third largest city, Sumgayit. The events featured an exhibition of
art including the pictures of two holy mosques based in Mecca and
Medina, as well as exhibitions of dates, traditional clothing and
jewelry, calligraphy and caricatures. Dances, folk music and a
performance entitled "Birds and dancing" were also part of the
activities.
Saudi Arabia hosted the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in 2007.
