A contemporary art exhibition aimed at promoting Azerbaijani culture around the world opened at the well-known Moscow Multimedia Art Museum on Monday, Azerbaijan's state news agency Azertag reported.

The "Fly to Baku" exhibition, co-organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia and Moscow-based Baku magazine, presents over 100 works in the genres of painting, sculpture, installation, video art, performance art and photography by 21 Azerbaijani artists.

Most of the artworks were made especially for the exhibition, which will be open for visitors until February 24.

The exhibition has already been held in London, Paris and Berlin, and Rome is expected to be the next venue.

Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, addressed the opening ceremony, attended by Russian cultural workers and foreign guests.

The opening of the exhibition was also attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu, as well as Julia Gusman and Mikhail Gusman, Alexander Budberg, Mikhail Barshchevsky, Oxana Fedorova, Yegor Konchalovsky and many other well-known representatives of the Russian beau monde.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Multimedia Art Museum Olga Sviblova and curator Herve Mikaeloff emphasized the importance of the exhibition. The speakers said the large-scale exhibition brought together three generations of Azerbaijani artists.

Azerbaijani artists' creations have been exhibited regularly at the Biennale in Venice since 2007. Their works skilfully reflect a synthesis of the East and West, and contribute to the development of broad and inclusive cultural dialogue.

These artworks reflect the ancient history of Azerbaijan, its rich national traditions, the generosity and sincerity of the Azerbaijani people.

The exhibition includes artworks by Leyla Aliyeva, in particular, her illustrations of national fairy tales like "Butterfly", "Our Past", "Once Upon a Time", "Lies", and "Solitude".

The event also features sculptures and paintings by renowned Azerbaijani artist Altai Sadikhzade, urban panoramas by Aida Makhmudova, works by Rashad Alakbarov and Elyar Alimirzoyev in the genre of applied arts.

Attendees were presented postcards and brochures prepared by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
