A habitat dating back to the Achaemenid era (550-330 BCE) has been discovered in the Shamkir region in western Azerbaijan, according to Asgar Asgarov, an official of the region’s Сulture and Tourism Department.

As a result of archeological excavations carried out in the area, located near the Garajamilli village, the foundation of a 2,500 year-old residence and parts of its central column were found.

The excavations have been carried out by Azerbaijani, Georgian and German archaeologists since 2007.

Such historical monuments were found in Azerbaijan for the first time in 1958-59 in the western Gazakh region.
