Azeri duet advances to Eurovision final
DUSSELDORF – The Azerbaijani duet has made its way into the final of this year’s Eurovision song contest. Eldar Gasymov and Nigar Jamal, performing as Ell and Nikki, were a success with the "Running Scared" song at the semi-final of the contest held in Dusseldorf, Germany on Tuesday.
10 of the 19 bidders were selected at the first Eurovision semi-final. The other successful countries were Serbia, Lithuania, Greece, Georgia, Switzerland, Hungary, Finland, Russia and Iceland.
Armenia’s performer Emmy failed to proceed to the Eurovision final. Turkish band Yuksek Sadakat did not secure its participation either.
The second Eurovision semifinal will be held on Thursday. On Saturday, all eyes will be on the final round of the popular European contest.
Azerbaijan ranked eighth at Eurovision in 2008, third in 2009 and fifth in 2010.
