Azerbaijan hosts conference on cultural heritage
BAKU – Azerbaijan’s northwestern city of Ganja hosted an international conference on the protection of intangible heritage in the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) member states on Thursday and Friday.
Participants discussed prospects for creating intangible and cultural heritage tourism routes.
Besides Azerbaijan, the event was attended by representatives of Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Egypt, Bahrain, Malaysia, Jordan, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as ISESCO and travel agencies.
Speakers said ISESCO has launched a project aiming to preserve intangible heritage for future generations. The initiative envisions various activities seeking to protect such samples available in Islamic countries and include them into UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The project will be implemented jointly with UNESCO’s relevant committee from 2012-2018.
