Azerbaijan, Iran open ‘new page’ in cultural co-op

BAKU - Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev on Monday received an Iranian delegation led by Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini.

The parties said relations between Azerbaijan and Iran were developing successfully in all fields, and culture in particular. They stressed that friendship and brotherly relations between the two nations underpinned successful bilateral cooperation.

The importance of expanding cultural relations for both Azerbaijan and Iran was emphasized during the discussions.

The Iranian minister met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Abulfas Garayev on the same day. The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol on cultural cooperation. Under the document, Days of Azerbaijani Culture will be held in Iran in September, to be followed by the Days of Iranian Culture in Azerbaijan.

Following the signing, Garayev presented an Azerbaijani carpet to his Iranian counterpart.
Hosseini told reporters that "a new page" has opened in Iran-Azerbaijan cultural cooperation.
"During our visit to Azerbaijan, such issues as jointly shooting films, holding Days of Culture, mutual visits by the two countries’ art figures and poets, and joint organization of exhibitions and festivals were discussed."

According to Hosseini, undertaking such activities, along with promoting knowledge of the two nations about one another, facilitates the expansion of bilateral cooperation in politics, economics and other fields.
