Azerbaijan's Honored Artist Timur Asgarov will perform in the "Park" ballet to be staged at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg on October 3.
The world premiere of the ballet, based on W. Mozart's works and prepared by choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, took place in 1994 in Paris. It was premiered at the Mariinsky Theater in 2011.
Angelin Preljocaj is a French dancer and choreographer of contemporary dance. His choreographic work is steeped in his writing of the history of classical ballet, but is resolutely contemporary.
He joined the Ballet de l'Opera National de Paris in the early 1990s. In 1995, Preljocaj received the Prix Benois de la Danse as choreographer.
Preljocaj founded a ballet company in 1996 that was subsequently renamed Ballet Preljocaj when it moved into its current home at Pavillon Noir of Aix-en-Provence.
Timur Asgarov, a graduate of the Baku School of Choreography, performed at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater and the Ukraine Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet named after T. Shevchenko in 2008-2011.
Since 2011, Asgarov has been working in the Mariinsky Theater. He is a winner of the "Spirit of Dance" award in the "Rising Star" category by “Ballet” magazine in 2012, prizewinner at the 11th International Ballet Dancers' and Choreographers' Competition in Moscow in 2013, and recipient of the Azerbaijan Presidential Youth Prize for Culture in 2013.
Asgarov was recognized as the best male dancer in duet nomination of the International Ballet Competition and contest of choreographers that took place at Russia’s Bolshoi Theater in 2013.
His repertoire includes “Giselle”, “The Sleeping Beauty”, “La Bayadere”, “Swan Lake”, “Don Quixote”, “The Nutcracker”, “Carmen Suite”, “The Legend of Love”, “Le Corsaire”, “Chopiniana”, and other ballets.
With the Mariinsky Theater, Asgarov toured around Europe, Asia and America.
