The Week of Russian films solemnly opened at Nizami Cinema Center on September 7.

Famous figures of culture and art of Azerbaijan, numerous admirers of Russian cinematography attended the event.

Addressing the event, renowned film director, Honored Worker of Culture of Azerbaijan Ayaz Salayev stressed that Russian cinema is always very good at competing with Western cinema.

Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Bocharnikov noted that the current Week of Russian Cinema in Azerbaijan is the fourth in recent years. The diplomat stressed that he would like this event to be annual.

"It is gratifying that we continue the remarkable tradition of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere," the ambassador said.

Bocharnikov said that the program of the Week of Russian Cinema includes eight films in various genres - these are the latest works of Russian cinematographers. The films will be screened at Nizami Cinema Center and YARAT Contemporary Art Center.

The head of the Russian delegation, producer Yulia Bragina, as well as film producer Natalia Mokritskaya and actress of the theater and cinema Irina Demidkina said that they are very glad to present the works of Russian cinematographers to the Azerbaijani audience.

"We are ready to make such fine film festivals regularly. I hope that the program of the Film Week will appeal to the Azerbaijani viewer. All films are different and interesting, probably each guest of the event will find something interesting," said Bragina.

Next, the film "Salute-7" directed by Klim Shipenko was presented to the audience.

"Salyut 7" is a 2017 Russian historical drama film directed by Klim Shipenko. The story is based on the Soyuz T-13 mission in 1985, part of the Soviet Salyut programme.

USSR, June 1985. After contact with the Salyut 7 space station is lost, cosmonauts Vladimir Fyodorov and Viktor Alyokhin attempt to dock with the empty, frozen craft to bring her back to life.

The film was released on October 12, 2017.

It should be noted that the program of the Week of Russian Cinema in Azerbaijan includes films of various genres that have become the prizewinners of many Russian and international film festivals.

The film "Draft" will be screened at Nizami Cinema Center on September 10, at 18.30.

The films "Throws" (September 11), "Uncle Sasha" (September 12), "Blood" (September 13), "Summer" (September 14) will be screened at YARAT Contemporary Art Center, at 19:00.

All films will be shown in Russian without subtitles.
