The Azerbaijan National library named after M.F. Akhundov hosted an exhibition "The Great Union. From Victory in World War I to the Coronation of the Great Romanian Sovereigns" in Baku on June 20.

The event is organized by the Museum of Cotroceni in Bucharest.

Addressing the opening ceremony, the Ambassador of Romania to Azerbaijan Dan Iancu emphasized that this year is very symbolic for Azerbaijan and Romania.

"This year, Romania celebrates the centenary of its identification, as well as, Azerbaijan which marks the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic," he said.

The director of Cotroceni Museum Mr. Liviu Jicman said the exhibition is mainly dedicated to the Ferdinand and Queen of Mary, who played important role in unification of the Romanian Empire.

"This exhibition is incarnation of the world, bridge of friendship and cooperation. It also reflects the history, culture and architecture of Romania," he added.

Member of Milli Majlis, a member of Azerbaijan-Romania Inter parliamentary Friendship Group, Ganira Pashayeva stressed that there are close ties between two states.

"Azerbaijan and Romania are strategic partners, the countries have long - term relations. This exhibition is important in terms of strengthening relations between us and bringing information about Romania to the Azerbaijani public," the parliamentarian concluded.

Notably, the exhibition will last until July 10.

Romania and Azerbaijan enjoy traditionally very close and friendly relationships.

Romania officially recognized Azerbaijan’s independence on December 11, 1991. The two countries established diplomatic relations on June 19, 1992.

Embassy of Romania has been functioning since November 3, 1998, the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been functioning since May 19, 2001.

The two countries are interested in developing cooperation in the humanitarian field.

About 60 books covering the literary works of eminent writers and dramatists from both nations have been translated to both Romanian and Azerbaijani languages under the initiative of Romania-Azerbaijan Friendship Association and support of Embassy.

A bust of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was erected in Bucharest and a statue of great Romanian composer George Enescu was erected in Baku. The Romania-Azerbaijan Cultural Relations Union was established in Baku in 2000. At the same time,the Azerbaijan – Romania Culture Association named after Fuzuli was established in Constanta.

Economic relations between Romania and Azerbaijan are developing at a high pace. Romania expressed a desire to participate in the export of Azerbaijani oil to European markets. Countries cooperate in various regional projects, including within the framework of the TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) program.

So far, 56 bilateral documents were signed between Azerbaijan and Romania.
