Scientists to discuss mugham art

Famous scientists, cultural and art figures will gather in Baku at an international symposium in spring to discuss ancient Azerbaijani art of mugham.

International symposium "Traditions of mugham at the intersection of science and art" will be held in the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) on March 7-10, Sputnik.az reported.

Famous art and culture figures will discuss topics related to mugham art, in particular, the national interpretation of the eastern system, the aesthetic and narrative semantics of texts, language and rhythmic features of texts of vocal-instrumental mughams.

Topics on the conceptual significance of the traditional mugham genre "Destgah", sources of the strong psychological impact and music therapy of mugham and its performing traditions as a common point of the multicultural world will be on the agenda of the symposium.

The participants will touch upon the scientific foundations of artistry and the artistic foundations of science in mugham creativity and the development of this art - history and modernity.

The event is supported by the Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The Azerbaijani mugam is included in the list of UNESCO Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity (2003) and the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (2008).

One of the most valuable monuments of the material and spiritual culture of the nation contains seven main modes - Rast, Shur, Segah (are especially common), Shushtar, Bayaty-Shiraz, Chahargah, Humayun and three collateral kinds - shahnaz, sarendj, chargah in some other form.
