Archaeologists have uncovered the early Eneolithic settlement in Nakhchivan.

The research in the area has been carried out by the Azerbaijan-France international archeological expedition since early August, Trend reported.

The archeological excavations, led by ANAS member Vali Bakhshaliyev and well-known French archaeologist Katherine Marron aim to explore the ancient farming and economic-cultural relations.

Bakhshaliyev said that the discovery of the early Eneolithic settlement is very important, adding that there were also reveled ceramic products, including painted dishes here.

The cultural samples allow to explore life of the ancient inhabitants of Azerbaijan and identify the successive stages of the Eneolithic period. Some of the discovered material-cultural examples include obsidian tools.

He noted that material and cultural samples found during excavations are being studied by experts from France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Hungary and Australia along with Azerbaijani scientists.

The excavations are currently underway.
