Baku hosted a concert of Turkish music and folk dances entitled “Colors of Anatolia” on December 23.

The organizers of the concert at the Heydar Aliyev Palace were the Culture and Tourism Ministry of Turkey and Yunus Emre Institute in Baku.

Azerbaijani MP Hikmat Babaoglu, addressing the event, recalled that Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev used to say, Turkey and Azerbaijan, see each other as “one nation in two states”. He stressed that Azerbaijani-Turkish brotherhood and friendship is based upon national, historical, and cultural roots.

Babaoglu, speaking about the concert program, said that the presentation of “Colors of Anatolia” in Baku bears a special mission and importance. Highlighting that Anatolia enjoys a very colorful and diverse culture, the parliamentarian said that Azerbaijani and Turkish cultures have the same roots, and complement each-other.

Turkish Ambassador to Baku Erkan Ozoral, who began his speech by reading a verse from “Azerbaijan-Turkey” poem of Azerbaijani poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzade, emphasized that today's event demonstrates the unity of the two countries.

Later, the participants enjoyed the national dances of Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The concert featured performances by the “Istanbul Historical Music Society”,founded by the Ministry of Culture, the Ottoman Mehter Band , State Folk Dance Society, Turkish World Music Society of Ankara, Konya Turkish Music Society, Sanliurfa and Sivas Turkish Folk Music Choir Ensembles, Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir, Classical Turkish Music Choir ensembles.

The participants had a chance to witness the dance and music of Anatolia, a home to many civilizations over the course of history, folk dances, classical Turkish music, and Sufi music of the Turkic world.
