Agriculture unaffected by global crunch, says minister
The global financial crunch has not affected
Azerbaijan`s agriculture and it poses no threat to this key sector
of the national economy, Minister Ismat Abbasov has said.
"The impact of the international financial crisis is not sensed in Azerbaijan that much, so far. In particular, this is the case in the agrarian sector, given that in this field we are meeting 90-95% of domestic demand with our own goods. Further, we plan to bring this indicator to 100% in the coming years."
The minister said the government was allotting ample funds for agricultural development, pledging that the allocations would be continued in the years to come. Rapid development of this sector will fully provide Azerbaijan`s food safety. "In a nutshell, the task facing us is to ensure the country`s food safety and to achieve meeting these needs by domestic goods," Abbasov said.
