Media reps familiarize with “Shimal” combined cycle power project realized by Japanese government

A number of social and economic programs were realized in Azerbaijan under Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) program, which is aimed to assist the developing countries.

On March 7, the Japanese embassy in Baku organized an event to familiarize media representatives with the Shimal combined cycle power project in settlement Shuvalan of Khazar District.

Head of the "Azerenergy" consumer control department Elchin Mammadov informed about the project. He said that the construction of the power station was launched 10 years ago.

He said the Japanese government allocated credit to power plant construction in 1998 and in 2002, the station was put into operation.

According to him, construction of "Shimal -2" will solve the energy problems in Absheron Peninsula.
The project is being implemented by the Japanese Company "Toyo Engineering Corporation" and Azerbaijan OJSC "Azenco".

In turn, Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Shusuke Watanabe said the construction of this station is a symbol of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The main goal pursued by the Japanese government is official support of the program in countries that are in the process of development and based on good principles of statehood, to support the principle of self-support and collaborate on the development of human resources, the legal system, economic and social infrastructure as a basis for the development of these countries.
