Azerbaijan's non-oil industry rose 7.8% in 2012

The volume of industrial production in Azerbaijan amounted to 33.929 billion manat in 2012, or 2.3 percent less than in 2011, according to the report of the State Statistics Committee,Trend news agency reported.

In the private sector, the volume of industrial production in relation to the year before fell by 2.5 percent to 81 percent of total industrial production. 91.8 percent accounts for production of industrial goods, while 8.2 percent - for industrial services.

Production in the non-oil industrial sector grew by 7.8 percent, while the oil sector fell by 4.2 percent.

During the reporting period, the volume of production in the mining industry declined by 4.2 percent to 25.6 billion manat with weight of 75.4 percent of total industrial production. Oil output fell by 5.3 percent to 43 million tons, and natural gas production grew by 5.4 percent, to 17.2 billion cubic meters.

Output in the manufacturing sector amounted to 6.42 billion manat, increasing by 5.4 percent. In January-December, there was an increase in production of computers and other electronic equipment to eight times, furniture (2.3 times), rubber and plastic (2.3-fold), in the printing industry (2.2 times) in the textile industry (61 percent), electrical equipment (by 76.9 percent), manufacture of fabricated metal products (48.6 percent), paper and cardboard (43.6 percent), etc.

Also, there was an increase of 2.7 percent in food production. The production of sugar and granulated sugar in the country grew by 6.3 percent to 355.1 million tons, of oil - by 64.5 per cent (63.1 tons), of margarine - by 15.2 percent (23.1 tons), of jam and marmalade - by 7.5 percent (11.3 thousand tons).

The share of production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam in the total industrial production accounted for 5.1 percent (an increase of 11.6 per cent) and in the water sector, wastewater treatment and waste account - for 0.6 percent (1.3 percent growth).
