Tajikistan to join World Trade Organization

Tajikistan is expected to officially become a part of the World
Trade Organization (WTO) on December 10, Radio Liberty
reported.
A protocol on Tajikistan's accession to the organization that sets
and enforces world trade rules is expected to be signed at the
WTO's headquarters in Geneva.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who has been on a working visit to
Switzerland, is due to attend the event.
Tajikistan's negotiations to join the WTO lasted for 11 years.
WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy has said: "Accession to the WTO
will firmly integrate Tajikistan into the global economy and the
global trading system, providing an open, transparent, and
nondiscriminatory environment."
Tajikistan is set to become the 158th member nation of the WTO,
which regulates nearly all of the world's trade.
Russia joined in August.
