New insurance service to be introduced for vehicle owners

The State Insurance Supervision Service under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Finance and the Compulsory Insurance Bureau is going to launch a new service for vehicle owners, the head of State Insurance Supervision Service Namig Khalilov told Trend news agency on Thursday.

"In the near future we will launch a new service through the information system of Compulsory Insurance Bureau. This includes the automatic sending of SMS-messages to insurers during registration of the insurance policy and its inclusion in the bureau's information system. A message will contain a notice of the registration, information about the insurance policy and also a warning for insurers to make insurance contributions only after receiving this message, "Khalilov said.

According to him, introduction of this service will eliminate some shortcomings and in particular embezzlement of money by insurance agents who, having received the insurance premium, do not register the insurance contract in the bureau's information system.

"SMS-messages will also be sent 15 days prior to the expiration of the contract as a reminder and in the case of premature liquidation of the contract," Khalilov said.

According to him, the technical aspects of the service implementation have been resolved and agreed with all three mobile operators and the service will be launched by the end of this year. The service will be provided free of charge.

In the spring of this year, owners of vehicles in Azerbaijan had the opportunity to receive notification on the agreement on compulsory liability insurance through mobile communications. In the service, subscribers may receive information on the validity of the insurance certificate, its duration, series and number, title and contact for the insurance company by sending a state licence plate number to 9707.
