Turkmenistan to start construction of railway to Afghanistan soon
Turkmenistan is preparing to start construction of a first link of the railway that will connect the country with Afghanistan, a Turkmen official source said.
An intergovernmental agreement on implementing the project to build the Atamirat-Imamnazar-Akina-Andkhoy railway, which was proposed by Ashgabat last year, has already been signed.
The railway connecting the two neighboring countries is expected to become an important link in international transit and transport in the entire Eurasia.
Previously, construction of major energy infrastructure, which will enable to increase export of Turkmen electric power to Afghanistan five-fold, was launched.
Another initiative of Turkmenistan involving Afghanistan is a project seeking to construct a transnational gas pipeline that would connect the two countries with Pakistan and India. An international consortium is currently being established.
