Suez Environment to draft master plan on Baku water supply
Azerbaijan's state-run water supplier Azersu has signed an agreement with French-based utility company Suez Environment under a project on water supply in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, Azersu said Tuesday.
The agreement within the "Support of the master plan and operational assessment of water supply in Baku" project was signed by the head of Azersu, Gorkhmaz Huseynov, and the vice-president of the company on international development Eric Goebel.
The agreement envisions drafting a plan to study the water supply system of Baku and determine its weak points, and ensuring uninterrupted water supply.
"Continuous and good quality supply of water to the population is our overall aim," Huseynov said. "In order to achieve this we are cooperating with major world companies in this field."
He said the general plan on the Absheron region, which encompasses Baku and the surrounding regions, is being developed by Turkish companies. The first presentation has already taken place.
The Suez Environment vice president highly assessed the large-scale projects being implemented in Azerbaijan to improve water supply services and the sewerage system.
Previously, the government aimed to ensure the supply of water to all cities in Azerbaijan by 2013 and also planned the construction of a high quality sewerage system. However, it may take a few more years to complete the projects.
